Volunteers COUNT!
THANK YOU CAMROSE for registering your volunteer hours given during 2010 National Volunteer Week. This quick snapshot of our community's engagement shows an involved and caring community. One hundred volunteers registered a total of 1315 hours given that week. That's and average of 13.2 hours each!
Camrose Area Recognition, April 18-24, 2010
National Volunteer Week afforded our Volunteer Centre the opportunity to coordinate a community response to bring attention to the tremendous contributions our volunteers make to quality of life in our communities.
This year our members and municipal partners were invited to register to receive a share of 382 gift cards from merchants in Camrose and area. Funding provided by Alberta Culture and Community Spirit, through Volunteer Alberta, allowed us solicit 2-for-the-price-of-1, or outright donations of gift cards from merchants in Camrose area.
Each registered organization received at least $150 value in $10 gift cards to recognize their volunteers in whatever way fits best with their plans for National Volunteer Week. Each gift card was accompanied by a letter of thanks from the Volunteer Centre, recognizing project sponsors.
Offering a heart-felt “Thanks” is probably still one of the best ways to show your volunteers they are valued. This project supported our member organizations in telling volunteers how important they are.
National Volunteer Week in Alberta and Canada
The National Volunteer Week initiative has grown from 35 participating communities in 1994, to more than 150 communities in 2010. Through a unique partnership with the Alberta government, Volunteer Alberta is able to offer enhancement funding to communities throughout Alberta to encourage them to celebrate National Volunteer Week and to provide support to participants. We gratefully acknowledge this support.
