Volunteer Alberta launches VAULT!

VAULT is an online site developed specifically for Managers of Volunteers to collaborate, find and share resources and post and find training opportunities specific to engaging volunteers.  This site has been developed by Volunteer Alberta, with support from the Government of Alberta, exclusively for Managers of Volunteers in Alberta.  After consultation with Volunteer Manager Groups across the province, it was identified that being able to connect and collaborate with each other, share resources and help establish best practices would be a valuable asset to the profession.   Check out this FREE NEW TOOL and encourage all your networks to register and access these valuable resources, networking and training opportunities.

The Charities File resource is designed to help charitable organizations file their annual Registered Charity Information Returns (the T3010A Package) to the Canada Revenue Agency, more accurately, and on time. The tools available on the website – downloadable learning resources, fact sheets, quizzes, tips and useful links – are intended to provide additional training and support for board members, staff and volunteers to strengthen the administrative practices of charities. The goal is to make assembling financial information easier and more accessible within your organization.

Charity Central’s aim is to provide information and resource materials to help guide Registered Charities through the ins and outs of issuing official donation receipts, maintaining proper books and records, and complying with the tax requirements of charitable fundraising. Our website includes plain language information, interactive tutorials, podcasts and FAQs. New information continues to be added regularly! Please visit us at www.charitycentral.ca.

Charity Tax Tools is a set of resources built around a free comprehensive information website with easy-to-understand content developed by Imagine Canada that will provide your charity with timely information and tools to ensure you have the resources to meet Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements.

To support the overall Charity Tax Tools program goal of providing information to Canadian charities in the areas of receipting fundraising activities, maintaining books and records and reporting to the CRA is a series of FREE Charity Tax webinars. These webinars will offer an opportunity to delve into specific topic areas and serve as a chance to dialogue with subject experts in an online format.

We start our Charity Tax webinar series focused on the topic of Charitable Status. The webinars outlined below will be of interest to those looking at applying for charitable status or for those who are just looking for a refresher on the obligations of Charitable Status.

Being registered as a charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) brings certain benefits to an organization but also several challenges and regulatory obligations. Before applying for registration, you should satisfy yourself that the benefits outweigh these challenges and obligations, and that there is no better alternative available for you. This webinar will review the benefits, challenges and obligations of becoming a charity to help you decide if this is the right course of action for you.

Before you decide to register a charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), you should consider other possible ways of achieving your goals. Being a registered charity involves many challenges, obligations, and related costs, so it is wise to look at all the alternatives and select the one that will best help you meet your goals. If your goal is to carry on a charitable program or activity, consider alternatives to establishing a charitable organization. If your goal is to ensure that a significant donation of funds is used for a specific purpose, both now and in the future, consider alternatives to establishing a foundation. This webinar will review all of these alternatives and help you decide the right course of action.

In reviewing applications for charitable registration, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) considers whether the organization is appropriately set up; has purposes (or objects) that are exclusively charitable; will have activities that are charitable, are carried out in an allowable manner, and further one or more of its purposes; and will deliver a public benefit. All four of these criteria must be met, or the application will be rejected. This webinar will review the steps required to apply for registration and how to address the above considerations as part of your application.
